Ellen Gordon is a Stamford, CT-based mixed media artist whose work speaks to the creative magic that occurs when color, form and emotion collide. She is interested in the interaction between color and its effect on composition, and describes her work as the process of discovering and transforming shapes and lines to create contemporary abstract and portrait compositions. Over the past two decades, Gordon’s work has evolved through many phases, but her main body of work centers on figurative collages - intimate yet colorful portrayals of a woman in her own thoughts, providing the viewer a window into honest moments with a series of striking and bold women. Her most recent work has been a transition into the abstract, experimenting with geometric shapes and reflecting forms in color palettes both explosive and soft.

Gordon is a dedicated member and leader of the art community in Fairfield County. She currently serves on the board of the Greenwich Art Society and previously was the president of the Loft Artist Association and the co-president of the Stamford Art Association. She has taught art programs for art lovers of all ages, from school-aged students to senior citizens.

Gordon was trained at the Greenwich Art Society, the Silvermine Arts Guild and the Rowayton Arts Centre. She holds an undergraduate degree from Boston University and a master’s degree from Baruch College. She has exhibited regionally and is the recipient of many awards. Most recently her work was named the Best in Show in 2019 at the Bendheim Gallery at the 102 Annual Member Exhibition of the Greenwich Art Society, Best in Show at the 2017 Ridgefield Guild of Artists Members Exhibition, the 2017 “Peripheral Vision” Greenwich Art Society Member Exhibition at the Flinn Gallery, and the 96th Annual Juried Exhibition at the Bendheim Gallery of the Greenwich Art Society in 2013. She has also been awarded the Faber Birren Color Award at the Stamford Art Society in 2009 and the George W. McClellan Award for Watercolor from the Greenwich Art Society’s Flinn Gallery in 2011 and 2015.
