Jyoti Desai

Jyoti Desai has an MFA from the University of North Texas School of Art and Design with a Major in Advertising Art. As a graduate student Jyoti worked as an art instructor, teaching undergraduate classes in graphic design, drawing and computer graphics.

Jyoti managed the university graphic studio and frame shop that serviced all the university marketing needs. She was responsible for hiring and directing the designers on staff.

Jyoti also managed and curated the campus art gallery. She directed the placement and lighting of the artwork in the show and organized and hosted the show openings. She procured jurors from time to time.

Jyoti’s career as a designer and creative director has spanned over 25 years in many industries. In her most recent position she headed up the internal creative, digital, and emarketing team at a large financial services firm. She has been the principal of GreatOwl Creative since 2015 and continues to work with fortune 100 companies as a consultant providing marketing and design services.

In the last five years, Jyoti has transitioned to rediscovering her passion and love for art and painting.

“The organic process of painting allows me to work instinctually and spontaneously. Leaving room for the process to reveal surprising discoveries of shapes and textures is very important to me. Ideally, my painting’s story reflects back to the viewer and, when shared with an audience, takes on new meaning based on the viewer’s own perception. My work often displays bold high contrast colors working in harmony with the composition of shapes. There is a strong emphasis on overlaying or peeling away layers of paint and textures revealing the painting’s own organic, life span.”

Jyoti is a Stamford, CT resident and works out of her home studio.
